Judge also takes shot at 'The Voice,' asking, 'How many artists have they discovered?'

<P>Simon Cowell is finally opening up about the cast shakeups on "The X Factor" as well as about rumors that two <i>very</i> famous divas are in talks to join Fox's reality singing competition. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Simon Cowell Compares The British And U.S. Versions Of 'X Factor'" id="vid:698604.id:1672066" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>Late last month, it was announced that judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones had been <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml"><P>id="1678191">fired from "X Factor"</a> and would be replaced in its second season. The announcement came as a shock to fans, but Cowell tells <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/simon-cowell-x-factor-firings-voice-287806" target="_blank">"Extra"</a> in an interview airing Wednesday (February 8) that the decision was a long time coming and was ultimately made "at the beginning of the year — and we were told it had to happen straight away." </P><P> </P><P>While her dismissal came as a surprise, Cowell says Abdul "was very gracious" about it. "She understands it's business," Cowell said of his real-life friend. "It's never personal." </P><P> </P><P>Scherzinger, according to Cowell, was "disappointed" with the producers' decision to replace her. But the former Pussycat Doll insisted in a new <a href="http://www.accesshollywood.com/nicole-scherzinger-talks-x-factor-departure-i-have-no-regrets_article_60184" target="_blank">"Access Hollywood"</a> interview that she "had a wonderful experience on the show." </P><P> </P><P>"What happened? Well, all I know is that I gave 110 percent to that show," she said. "I know everybody's talking about it, they're saying good, bad, they love me or hate me, but the one thing you can't say is that I didn't give it my all." </P><P> </P><P>Cowell also used his time with "Extra" to squash rumors that Beyoncé or Mariah Carey might be joining the "X Factor" team when it returns to Fox later this year. He seemed particularly amused by <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/02/08/idUS114237084820120208" target="_blank">talk</a> that the show was offering Beyoncé a nine-figure contract to join the judges' table. </P><P> </P><P>"The budget for the show is $100 million. That would never ever happen. </P><P> </P><P>It's absolute nonsense," he told "Extra." "No one is going to pay $100 million for someone. I genuinely haven't had a conversation with her about it. Not at all." </P><P> </P><P>The same can be said for Carey, who Cowell said he likes very much and would be a fine addition to the show but is an impractical choice because of the long hours involved. "I adore her, love her," he said. </P><P>"But you can't expect someone who has just had two kids [and] has a record career to make the kind of commitment we would need on this show." </P><P> </P><P>"X Factor" did not perform as strongly as expected in the ratings last fall, which many feel precipitated the planned revamp, though the ever-cool Cowell is not sweating the competition. In this latest interview, Cowell took on "The Voice," which returned to NBC after the Super Bowl and delivered big ratings, saying the makeup of his judging panel is what sets "X Factor" apart. </P><P> </P><P>"I would ask how many records have they made, how many artists have they discovered?" Cowell asked of "The Voice" mentors Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. "That's where we have to be different on the judging panel. It's very important that you have people on the panel that have actually signed and made artists successful all over the world, not just have made hit records yourself."</p>

<P>Madonna surprised partygoers at <a href="/news/articles/1681742/ultra-music-festival-avicii-madonna.jhtml">Ultra Music Festival</a> over the weekend when she took the stage to introduce EDM star Avicii. But one of dance music's biggest stars didn't meet her appearance with such excitement. </P><P> </P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/deadmau5/artist.jhtml">Deadmau5</a> took to his <a href="http://www.facebook.com/deadmau5" target="_blank">Facebook</a> after her cameo to criticize the singer (who just dropped <a href="/news/articles/1681693/madonna-above-the-buzz-pop-queen.jhtml">her album <i>MDNA</i></a> this week) for a joke she made. It was Madonna asking "How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?" that left the producer a bit perturbed as Molly is a thinly veiled reference to the drug MDMA, which is also referenced in the title of Madge's new album. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:752759/cp~vid%3D752759%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A752759" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>"Very classy there madonna. F---ing cant smack my head hard enough right now," he wrote on his site. </P><P> </P><P>"Seriously, i giveth not a f---ing single F--- for slating on madonna for reaching an entirely NEW level of idiocy ... i can appreciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE F--- WAS THAT? That's your big contribution to EDM? Thats your big message to ultra attendees? Hipster speak for looking for drugs? F--- off you f---ing IDIOT. F---." </P><P> </P><P>Seemingly knowing that his expletive-filled Facebook rant about her appearance would spark debate, he added, "well if this doesnt start a f---in flame war, not sure what will. lol. </P><P> </P><P>"yeah, i really kinda leeeeeeeeroy jenkins'd that s--- huh... MDNA / Molly / MDMA / whatever .. something about a track? still seems the same to me, coz its still, in my opinion, unnecessary promotion of the sh-- that really held EDM down for years." </P><P> </P><P>Deadmau5 received tons of feedback, some agreeing and others siding with Madonna. Hours later, the famed EDM producer wrote a much lengthier post on his <a href="http://deadmau5.tumblr.com/post/19950981116/responsibility" target="_blank">Tumblr</a> to clarify what he meant by his comments regarding Madonna's "Molly" statement. </P><P> </P><P>"Im not perfect. i have my vices, and some of them are probably more harmful than a recreational drug or two... but i do know that i am at the very least morally obligated not to blatantly inflict or advocate anything that's detrimental to society, others health, etc," he explained in the post, titled "Responsibility." </P><P> </P><P>"So, if you can be pandered with MDMA references, then at least pander your own ass with a good sense of responsibility which will enable you to make the personal choices that are right for YOU... then i wont have to feel like a f---ing moron on a stage because you paid money to listen to some warm humming sounds high as f---. Besides, one day ill get older, and i dont want a bunch of f---ing irresponsible f---heads on my lawn. <P>Last month, <a href="/news/articles/1675654/evanescence-my-heart-is-broken.jhtml">Evanescence invited MTV News</a> to the set of their "My Heart Is Broken" video, where frontwoman Amy Lee told us about the dreamlike inspiration behind the clip (the 1988 British horror film "Paperhouse") and the nightmarish reasons she wrote the song in the first place: namely, the ongoing issue of sex trafficking. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="On The Set Of 'My Heart Is Broken' With Evanescence" id="vid:726271" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"A lot of times when I write, I just sort of make up words, and something will stick, and I'll be like, 'Oh, that's from my subconscious. That's what I need to write the song about,' " she explained. "And that's sort of what happened [with the song]. I was like, 'I think I'm writing about this thing; it's on my heart,' just imagining being in such a trapped place and how that might feel, so the song was actually inspired by that idea." </P><P> </P><P>So obviously, the video means an awful lot to Lee and her bandmates — which is why they chose to work with noted director and photographer Dean Karr, who filled the video with imagery that recalls both dreams <i>and</i> nightmares. And though the full "My Heart Is Broken" video doesn't premiere until Tuesday, Evanescence is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the clip's creation, with a making-of clip they sent exclusively to MTV News. </P><P> </P><P>As you'll see — and hear — making "My Heart Is Broken" was a labor of love, for both the band and their director, one filled with fiber optics, elaborate costumes and, of course, striking, surreal imagery. Rachel Zoe and her nanny took Skyler for lunch at the Newsroom Cafe in West Hollywood, Calif. on Monday (March 26). The adorable tot just turned turned one on March 22. He was thrown a birthday bash on Saturday and received a personalized child-size wooden boat as a gift.

An eyewitness told Celebuzz, ?They hung with a group back near the bar, and flew under the radar for the most part. They looked like they were having fun. I saw them laughing a lot.?
Another concert attendee added, ?I saw them quickly sneak a few kisses. Kristen was kind of in front of Rob, singing along at times. It was cute how he was looking on at her! They also held hands when they went to the backstage part.?

Producer/songwriter tells MTV News the 'sexier' track, which drops Monday, will 'definitely surprise people.'

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> is days away from dropping his lead <a href="/news/articles/1680373/justin-bieber-believe-album.jhtml"><i>Believe</i></a> single, <a href="/news/articles/1680882/justin-bieber-boyfriend-single-buzz.jhtml">"Boyfriend,"</a> and its early buzz grew even louder on Wednesday when <a href="/news/articles/1681514/justin-bieber-boyfriend-lyrics.jhtml">Bieber released the lyrics</a> for the track. While fans will have to wait until Monday to hear the song, MTV News got a little bit of a tease from one of the guys who worked with the teen sensation on the track. </P><P> </P><P> "This record is different in a very good way," "BF" co-producer and co-writer Mason Levy told MTV News. "Definitely edgier, it's more grown-up, it's more developed and it's sexier. It's just like really dope. It's gonna definitely surprise people. "It's more of something that everyone can drive around and listen to it, whether they're guys or girls or older," he said. </P><P> </P><P>Bieber has said he wanted to grow up with this album and the Mike Posner-produced song. His model was the post-'NSYNC Justin Timberlake. From the sound of it, he might have hit that nail on the head. </P><P> </P><P>"It's more just the verses [that he raps on] and the rest he's singing," he said. "It's dope. It's hip-hop, but with great acoustic R&B, pop guitar with very hip-hop, clubby drums and really dope Justin Timberlake-y melodies." </P><P> </P><P>The creation of the song was pretty organic, Levy said. "We got together and started messing around. It was one of those things where you didn't have to struggle too much. It just kind of happened," he said. "He always goes in and does melodies and he's involved in lyrics and everything." </P><P> </P><P>"Boyfriend" will set the tone for the album, set for release later this year. "There's definitely lots of diversity on the album. There's really ballad-y stuff and there's more stuff like this. I would say ['Boyfriend'] is harder," Levy added. He's gone from up-and-comer to full-fledged pop sensation, racking up chart-topping albums and a box-office hit and becoming an all-around mega-heartthrob — all in two years. </P><P> </P><P>Of course, with the good does come negative attention as well. Recently, Bieber was hit with a <a href="/news/articles/1674509/justin-bieber-paternity-suit-dropped-2.jhtml">paternity lawsuit, which has since been dropped</a>. </P><P> </P><P>Usher, no stranger to his own controversies, had these words for the Biebs: "Stay strong. And know that all of this comes with the territory." </P><P> </P><P>Aside from the drama, Usher is especially proud of Bieber's charitable side. His mentor said he "absolutely" knew the kid from Stratford, Ontario, had a big heart from the start. </P><P> </P><P>"To write a check is only half of it, but when you truly take on a responsibility to be a philanthropist, you accept an effort, and I really think that Pencils of Promise is something that has a very bright future," <a href="/news/articles/1674628/justin-bieber-new-york-city.jhtml">Usher told MTV News at an event for the charity</a>, noting that Bieber is a only a small part of it. </P><P> </P><P>Usher — who appears on Bieber's new Christmas album, <a href="/news/articles/1673032/justin-bieber-usher-christmas-song.jhtml"><i>Under the Mistletoe</i></a> — gives credit to the folks surrounding the teen superstar, including manager Scooter Braun. "Just judging from the determination and the will power of the entire team around Justin, I see a very, very promising [future] for him as a philanthropist," Usher said.</p>

'I sing part of 'Black [or] White.' I'm the 'white' in 'Black [or] White,' ' actor reveals on the Golden Globes red carpet.

<P><P>Fox's song-and-dance series "Glee" is no stranger to a star-studded cameo or two, with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, John Stamos and Kristin Chenoweth all walking the halls of McKinley High during the past two and a half seasons. And as the show returns from a month-long hiatus, Gleeks aren't the only ones anticipating a few more famous faces. As star Chris Colfer told MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet, there's plenty to look forward to when New Directions warble again January 17. </P><P> </P><P>"Well, the Michael Jackson episode ...," Colfer answered when asked about his most-anticipated upcoming episodes. "We have a Spanish episode coming up with Ricky Martin. The actor/singer recently <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ricky_martin/status/155141894333140993" target="_blank">tweeted</a> a joyful picture from his first day on set. </P><P> </P><P>As to how the King of Pop's prolific songbook will manifest itself in the January 31 tribute episode, Colfer explained, "Well, I sing part of 'Black [or] White.' I'm the 'White' in 'Black [or] White,' and I sing 'Ben,' that famous song he wrote for the rat." </P><P> </P><P>The rodent in question is the pet of a young boy named Danny in the 1972 film "Ben." Jackson sang a version of the theme song that appeared in the movie's closing credits and was later included on his 1972 album also named <em>Ben</em>.
